At this year’s induction ceremony for newly qualified and registered pharmacists, Cedar Point was proud to sponsor the profession’s top honour: the John Ocran Award.

The ceremony, organised by the Pharmacy Council, was held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), where 708 newly qualified and registered pharmacists were welcomed into the profession.

Honouring the Best in Pharmacy

The John Ocran Award was instituted by the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists (WAPCP) in recognition of John Ocran’s contribution to the development of pharmacy. It is presented alongside the Overall Best Pharmacy Student Award to the candidate who ranks highest nationally.

This year, both honours went to the same person: Pharm. Dr Raymond Acheaw Ofori, recognised as the Overall Best Candidate in the 2025 Ghana Pharmacy Professional Qualifying Examination. Cedar Point sponsored the cash prize and citation that accompanied the John Ocran award.

Addressing the newly inducted pharmacists, Dr. Michael Kudebong, Registrar of the Pharmacy Council, called on them to build their careers on lifelong learning, integrity, service to humanity and national responsibility. Keynote speaker, retired Supreme Court Justice William Atuguba, added to that charge, urging the new pharmacists to uphold the highest standards of ethics throughout their careers.
